Day 9: Cliffs and Killarney

Tuesday  23/7/19
Day 3 of the Trip.

Today we headed to Killarney via Aderne, the Cliffs of Moher and somewhere else.

We drove through lovely countryside and learnt about how the locals had hundreds of years ago built stone walls between their fields to separate them. These stone walls were built by hand with no mortar and had stood for hundreds of years. However with new roads needing to be built, some of the walls needed to be demolished. Some are now being replaced. They look amazing across the countryside.

Lots of nice towns with pretty scenery.

On the way we stopped at a lookout. Beautiful coast line and even an attempt at a selfie.

And then we arrived at the 700 foot Cliffs of Moher.  These were stunning with amazing views of the Clare Coast.
We were  blessed with great weather. There are times when mist and rain make it impossible to see anything.  Not today.

The walking trails up to the cliff lookout were long and busy.  There was also a castle thing which was beautiful.  IT was all very windy.

And i could not believe my ears and then my eyes. A man playing a squeeze box which is of course a basic version of a piano accordion.
I took a photo and he even offered to let me play it but even after all these years, I am not over the trauma, so i said no.

And then on to Adare, a beautiful little village with a coffee shop and toilets.

This si a part of Ireland greatly affected by the 'The Great Hunger' in about 1845 when the blight wiped out the potato crop and farmers and many people in this area died of hunger. Below is a plaque for a young boy who died in a work house as did may hundreds of people.

After our arrival in Killarney, we went out to a show  called Irish Roots which was a night of  Celticsong, dance and an Irish cocktail. All of it was amazing.

There was a lady playing a harp and yes a squeezebox/piano accordion too!!
Two in the one day.     That's incredible!
