Day 14: Palazzo Regina

Sunday 28/7/19

Today we left Milan after a very good sleep at our hotel, Best Western near Milano Grand Central station.

It was a short walk to the station and we just followed everyone else carrying luggage heading for the station.  It is an amazing station, huge, very busy and really ornate.
The station

This is an old church near hotel. Paul out the front. It is Sunday.

Trenitalia is amazing. The train was  much easier to find than the metro and we easily found the gate, the platform etc. (could not find the toilets, i followed a sign for ages and then suddenly it was downstairs and i thought not worth it. No pressure)

The train was nearly on time and we did eventually find the right carriage. I got on the wrong one first and the conductor pretty much screamed at me to go 'Avanti'. Helpful.

The train was comfortable but not much room for luggage and we have a lot of luggage. Almost killed people trying to get it up onto the racks above seats. At least there are racks unlike the Sydney-Newcastle train.

We arrived at Stresa on Lago Maggiore.  (Not Lake Como, Paul got the lakes wrong so no George)
WE are staying in the Palazzo Regina  which is close to centre of town and across the road from the lake.  This is the most amazing beautiful hotel i have ever stayed in.

One of the chandeliers, maybe crystal.

The lobby

More lobby with stairs to first floor.

Another chandelier
These are some photos from our room . Pretty amazing.

Our own chandelier.

WE needed food and so walked across the road  to a bar/restaurant. Mainly they sold alcohol with Americanized food. We found one pasta dish that actually tasted like mum's pasta sauce. Very nice.
We took some photos of the shore line and views of the lake and the mountains beyond.  We are actually really close to Switzerland here in Stresa.  IT was a bit cloudy in the morning.

Hotel's private beach. The chairs cost money.

Boats everywhere

nice looking out to the nearby islands and mountains.

This is one of the many streets in Stresa. They are all tiny cobbled stone and there are hundreds of restaurants, bars, shops, souvenir shops and ice cream shops. Around every corner is another street with more shops.

Il Gatto  souvenir shop reminded me of Orphy. I wonder how he is going.
More views from our room

And we then had a drink in the lobby from the bar. Because it took a while, our bar snacks were more substantial than usual.

Our day ended with a late dinner at a wine bar that we thought was a restaurant. They did have food which was great.  The end of a great day in our incredible hotel,  The Regina Palace.
