Thursday 25/7
Today we left the lovely Plaza Hotel in Killarney. The prettiest hotel so far.
There are odd sculptures along the roads which were part of some competition to brighten up the place. i think this one is a horse.
Our first top was the historic village of Cobh, pronounced Cove. It was also called Queenstown at one sge wen the queen i think Victoria visited. The name did not stick. This village was the last port the Titanic visited before you know what happened.
They are also associated with other major maritime events like the sinking of the ???
The ship was bombed in world War 1 i think and the villagers went out to rescue people and bring them back to Cobh where they were treated and many buried.
The Queenstown Museum has an interactive display so you are given a person's name and what boat they were on an then you have to find out from the displays what happened to them.
This is my guy, Daniel Buckley who survived the Titanic sinking and then died on the last day of World War I aged 28. (You win some, you lose some)
And then on to Blarney Castle which was an amazing place.
I did not kiss the Blarney stone nor did I climb the 100+ stairs up the Castle. It was an hour wait as well so not everyone on the trip did the climb.
Paul both climbed and kissed.
I had a lovely walk around the gardens and grounds and took some nice photos.
Once back at Cork for the night, we had a celebratory dinner in the hotel and then went to the Frisky Whiskey for some traditional Irish beer/spirit and music. The music was a lovely Irish woman singing blues very much like Janis Joplin. This was very nice.
I was surprised that Gin is big in Ireland as is craft beer and cocktails. So it is not all about the Guinness.
I have gone 2 days without a Guinness. Now that is incredible.
