Saturday 20/7/19
On our last day before the start of our Irish tour, we decide to go to Howth. Why? Well that is an interesting story. Paul's' acquaintance who works in a bank and used to live there recommended we go there.. Good enough for us.
We were going to go by taxi, damn the cost, but 2 taxi drivers tried to talk us out of it. Too much cost for us and probably too far out for them to get back in. The second taxi driver actually recommended we take the train and explained how. He drove us to 3 train stations before finding one that was actually open.
Connelly Station was the only train station open and was full of people and tourists with children. School holidays, damn it. The Dart is a green train but all the trains in Ireland are Green. The dart goes from north to South and is quick and easy.

We caught the green Dart from Connelly station to Howth as did hundreds of other people including screaming children and a few school tours from Spain.
If i hear something that sounds like Italian but i don't quite understand it, i assume they are from Spain. Lots of Spaniards around the place.
Howth is a beautiful headland north of Dublin and is a fishing, marina type place.
IT was a cloudy day, then it was sunny and then cloudy and then looked like rain but didnt. The locals said it was a beautiful day.
We walked up the pier to the lighthouse. Normally a walk of 20 minutes, 30 for me.
Even took photos of us/me:
And the very classy Guinness for the day
And the most Australian breakfast sign i have seen in ages outside an Italian restaurant. I may have made a video by mistake.
I also like this mermaid wooden statue. No reason.
We left Howth after a very nice (read expensive) lunch and headed back to Dublin on the Dart. That is a great name for a train.
Tonight we decided to take advantage of the package included with our room. Apparently breakfast and access to the executive lounge in the hotel giving us access to free drinks and canapes from 5.30 to 7.30pm. Why wasn't i told??? before we walked miles to find breakfast this morning???
Anyway we were there at 5.30pm waiting to enter the executive lounge. sounded great but somewhat disappointing. WE were the first there and only another 2 couples joined us for as much wine, beer and coffee you could drink in 2 hours and interesting canapes and little cakes. A bit high tea ish. The 'spread' below.
And we also were able to pour our own Guinnesses. Just what i needed, more Guinness. This is the first, and last one, i have ever poured. Awful.
And then to O'Brien's Pub for dinner. We were starving, not. At least it was close but we had to climb stairs which was not great.
Tomorrow we start the tour and wont have to think or carry our own luggage for 7 days as we travel around southern Ireland. That will be Incredible.
