Day 19: Stairs

Friday 2/8/19

Have i mentioned the stair. Everyone has two or three story homes and there are stair and hills everywhere.

At L'amberto's house where we are staying, these are the stairs to the front door.
These are stairs from living area to bedroom and bathrooms upstairs. 13.

These are the stairs to go down to the laundry to do the washing. another 12.

I know because today i washed.

L'amberto organised for us to have lunch today at the Restaurant Palmina and insisted on paying.
It was amazing food,  all home made and real. We had  primi piatti of pasta each but then shared the secondo piatto of trout with vegetables. They brought it out in 2 plates with great veggies and potatoes like mum used to make. Delicious.

The waiter/owner and possibly the cook introduced himself to us as Celestino and said he had helped his father shave the beards of the young men of Sefro before they left to go to Australia. He is sure Dad was among them. How amazing. He said he was a child at the time, 1952 i think.

It was a quiet day and we wanted to drive to the town of Camerino nearby. However we were told that Camerino is closed off completely because of the earthquake in 2016 and it remains uninhabitable. In fact there are army people guarding it and people's belongings. The people of Camerino are living in  cottages built for them by the government. Imagine that after 3 years. They are not happy.

So we stayed in Sefro, i drove the car in the quiet streets and we made the most of the internet at the bar.  WE just have to keep ordering drinks, coffee and food. Oh well.

We went to my cousin Lalla's place (up 30 steps or so) to see if her son Alessandro was home from work as he speaks English and Paul needed someone to talk to. He was also hoping for a dinner invite. I wanted to see how Ermano, Lalla's husband was after seeing the specialist in Matellica today.

There was no more news fro Ermano and more tests were being done including a biopsy soon. Yuck.
Alessandro ws there and we had a nice chat and left after no invite eventuated.

Instead we went to the hotel restaurant for a quick pizza.  The hotel is really close  and at the moment has soccer teams who are playing in some tournament staying there.  You should see them all on their phones all over the hotel.
Anyway it was OK but no where as good as Palmina's.

 The Hotel restaurant.

Palmina's was wonderful and meeting Celestino was incredible.
